'God as Science Fiction'. Richard Dawkins Interview & QA
>> ^shuac:
In listening to smart men like Dawkins, Sagan, Hawking, et al, I'm reminded why certain fundamentalist theists believe the way they do: it's far easier and requires far less education.

Plus, we can't rule out stupidity.

It doesn't take much education to be a fundamentalist atheist, either, a breed I've run into both online and in real life.

Quest4Bush - Jihadi Video Game
It's the Half-Life engine, I suspect.

The Duke Nukem 3d engine didn't have perspective correction, which distorted the view of the level every time you looked up or down. Quest4bush clearly does not suffer from that problem.

Rick Warren Says Candidates Must Believe in God (30 sec)
My suspicion is that he wouldn't vote for any non-monotheist. The question "Do you believe in God?" only makes sense from a monotheistic perspective. Which means that Hindus, Buddhists, and Pagans are out of the running.

McCain Says Obama is a Decent Person
A dupe?

Hang on, now. Check the post times. I put this up more than two hours before the other one.

Sidewalk to Nowhere, McCain Supporters in Bethlehem, PA
"Get a job!"

"Go to Russia!"

...?

Do these people not realize that it's 2008, and not 1964?

McCain Supporter Calls Obama Hooligan; McCain Agrees
>> ^Januari:
Maybe it's just me... but i find McCain looked.. and behaved as though he was very uncomfortable... and really not sure how much he should embrass this fellow...

You can see his pandering instinct is telling him he needs to... but is at least somewhat aware that... 'Angry' McCain is a sure fire way to kill whatever life his campaign actually has...

He's probably also becoming aware that having hooligan supporters is going to turn people off.

He's disagreed with his supporters' bigotry a couple times lately. For one:

America's "Christian" Heritage
Yeah, I think I saw the whole video in my high school government class.

* did not go to public schools *

I've met some of the guys who do this kind of thing. A guest speaker at my high school graduation, for instance, wrote a book that cherry-picked quotes that make the Founders sound like staunch Evangelicals.

Not only are their facts wrong, but most of these guys are huge prima donnas.

McCain supports Ape Rape
He made an offensive joke more than 20 years ago.

Why are we hearing about it now?

TDS: 9/24/08: Joe Versus the Volcano
One thing: Beretta is a brand of gun, not a model. Beretta makes shotguns as well as handguns. Their shotguns just aren't as well known.

Really expensive shotguns, for the record.

Word Play and Reasoning
Um... what?

Are we supposed to write down all the fallacies she named and match them up to the proper examples ourselves? 'Cause what she said didn't make any fucking sense.

She named the correct fallacy once. George Bush did, indeed, make a fallacious appeal to authority. (Though this may up to interpretation, as Americans should, in an ideal world, be able to trust the President.)

In some of the examples, the fallacy she named either had nothing to do with the example, or named a lesser fallacy that was involved while ignoring more important fallacies.

Some of the examples weren't even fallacious. Merely stating incorrect facts is NOT fallacious. It's just (one hopes) a mistake.

Why did I laugh? I'm an adult now. I'm not supposed to think this kind of thing is funny.

Little Britain USA - Grandma and Connor
Heh, the bit about cocaine is pretty close to the truth, actually. At the beginning of the 20th century, it was very popular. Freud wrote a famous monograph on its beneficial properties.

By the 20's or 30's, though, people were figuring out that it wasn't all that good for you, what with all the people dying from it. Including one of Freud's close friends.
